To 2015… and Beyond

Which services are the ones to watch? This year we want to go beyond the traditional reflection on the past year and look ahead to next year by highlighting some of the projects started in 2014 that will make a mark in 2015.

Innovation at the heart of So you Start

With the So you Start “Innovation Zone”, OVH is constantly offering cutting-edge technologies to the market: hardware, network, Big Data, virtualization, etc. So you Start is certainly not short of new features, making it the laboratory of OVH. In 2015, we will see Zerto and object storage emerge, and we will wave goodbye to the beta phase for Game Servers. Zerto will make it possible to implement a disaster recovery plan (DRP) by synchronizing its VMs constantly via a very high-speed connection and then booting the second infrastructure into action in a single click while keeping the network configuration. Object storage, the reliable and scalable storage solution, is intended for companies who want to store all kinds of content on a large scale in the Dedicated Cloud.

RunAbove, extreme high performance and innovative public cloud

Launched in 2104, RunAbove is a scalable and flexible high performance public cloud solution. It’s made for developing and testing applications or creating an overflow infrastructure. RunAbove is based on the new generation of processor, IBM Power8 (in beta), so exceptional performance is a guarantee. And customers can also store data, which is replicated across 3 different datacenters, by only paying for bandwidth and space used. Lastly, RunAbove Labs allow you to test out newly developed features and cutting-edge hardware. Next year, new Docker and PaaS projects will be launched, and RunAbove will get some new features, such as floating IPs and a new customer interface.

vRack: constant evolution of the network

OVH.com launched the vRack in June to respond to the growing need for businesses to deploy hybrid architectures by combining different types of resources - whether physical, virtual, external or internal. This solution makes it possible to interconnect all the components of an IT infrastructure, regardless of their location in the world. In April, the solution was awarded the "Best of IT innovation award 2014" by Initiative Mittelstand in Germany. OVH plans to make vRack 2.0 widely available, allowing users to deploy up to 4000 VLANs. The solution will be enhanced with some new features, such as Load Balancing IP. And to go even further in mastering its network, OVH will also design its own router. This will offer many opportunities, including protection against level 7 DDoS attacks and even a new CDN.

Always offering more new extensions

2014 saw the arrival of new gTLDs. Generic (.website, .club), geographic (.uk, .paris, .nyc), or brand-related (.sony, .ferrari), more than 4000 new domain extensions have been validated by ICANN. The .ovh extension debuted in October and, by the end of 2014, more than 55,000 .ovh domains have been registered. More than 200 other new extensions are awaiting validation and will be made available in 2015.

Preparing for the 2nd World Tour

Wishing to strengthen its relationships with its communities of customers and partners, the company embarked on its first World Tour, run by the OVH experts and spanning 17 cities in Europe and North America. One-on-one sessions, conferences, workshops, and open discussions offered great opportunities to discuss business issues, take feedback on board and establish important relationships. OVH is planning more than 240 events in 50 cities for 2015. In addition to the OVH Summit in Paris and 52 OVH World Tour dates, the infrastructure specialist will organise OVH Academies and take part in a number of informal meetings in Europe and North America.
